Four Dutch stars
We do not yet know a hospital where the patient is king on all fronts in the Netherlands. But these four excel in one area.
Waterland Hospital Purmerend: Hospitality
Sublime hospitality, short waiting times, friendly hostesses and professional care. These are the reasons why the Waterland Hospital has been awarded the maximum number of four stars in the ‘Hospitality Care Star Guide 2008’.
As soon as you enter, you notice that this is no ordinary hospital. There is a green carpet in the reception hall and piano music plays in the background. This feels like arriving at a hotel. In the waiting rooms, screens indicate whether the consultation hour is running late and if so: the number of minutes of delay. That’s good for you as a patient.
Martini Hospital Groningen: Nice building
As much as 30 percent more daylight than in other hospitals, which contributes to a beneficial environment. That is why the College Bouw Zorginstituut considers the Martini Hospital a good example of architecture that promotes the well-being of patients. Not only a lot of light, but also many colors contribute to the atmosphere. Streaks of sunlight fall on purple, yellow and soft green areas. Heart patients are on the east side of the hospital. The reason: heart patients quickly suffer from depressive thoughts and by seeing the rising sun their day starts positively.
Boven IJ Hospital: Good food
Most hospital food is produced (almost) entirely in the factory and heated in the hospital itself. The BovenIJ Hospital does things differently. The cooks buy fresh and prepare the meals themselves. And you can taste that, say fellow hospital chefs. They proclaimed the BovenIJ hospital the winner of the Grootkeuken Award 2007/2008. They were especially impressed with the satay: juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside. Also nice: the hot meal is not served at noon, but just like at home
‘in the evening.
St. Antonius Hospital-Nieuwegein: Child-friendly
The first hospital in the Netherlands to receive three smileys (a quality mark for child-friendliness) from the Child and Hospital Association for their child-oriented facilities in the pediatric ward, day treatment and maternity ward. At St. Antonius, parents are allowed to attend when their child is undergoing anesthesia. And if it comes back to the recovery room, they can go straight to it. You can also stay asleep. The maternity ward consists of single rooms only – with an extra bed for the father. So he doesn’t have to go home at night. And the baby can also stay in the room.
