According to the authors of this ranking, hospitals had to fill out very precise questionnaires on specific criteria.
To estimate the know-how of the establishments, the activity and the seriousness of the cases treated were taken into account.
The notoriety was judged, according to the authors of the article, by “ the attractiveness of a healthcare establishment to the public is estimated by calculating the percentage of patients treated in the establishment but domiciled in another department. With a geographical exception, the higher this percentage, the more attractive this hospital is.f ”.
The outpatient activity and the length of stay reveal a good organization of the hospital.
And, to assess the technicality of hospitals, the authors analyzed their specializations, and laparoscopic surgery (a camera and surgical instruments being introduced into the abdominal cavity, rather than by traditional surgery).
According to this survey, out of 42,000 public hospital practitioners, one in two is a woman (46%) or even more at AP-HP (55% with interns).
Women now represent a quarter of surgeons, but men are more present in orthopedics and urology (women represent 4% of the number of surgeons in these departments), in arterial surgery (8%) and in cardiac and thoracic surgery (9% ). Despite this proportion of female surgeons, access to the highest hierarchical positions (professor, head of department, etc.) remains dominated by men.
