The use of atropine sulfate, solution for injection 40 mg / 20 mL PCA, antidote for organophosphate neurotoxicants, will be authorized, according to the new decree of November 14 published in the Official Journal. The army will provide hospitals with this antidote against poison gas poisoning.
Following the attacks of November 13 and considering the risk of exposure to organophosphate neurotoxicants which constitute serious health threats, the Minister of Social Affairs, Health and Women’s Rights has decreed that, on an exceptional basis, the army will provide the necessary stock of atropine. “No other drug suitable for emergency management is to date authorized in the event of exposure of people to organophosphate neurotoxicants and that any useful measure should be taken to prevent serious damage to health, in particular. case of exposure of a potentially large number of victims to organophosphate neurotoxicants, ”recalls the decree.
While the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety has issued a marketing authorization for atropine sulfate 40 mg / 20 mL PCA, manufacturing and labeling constraints do not allow its release. available within a timeframe compatible with the organization of the 21st Conference of the Parties to the 2015 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21 / CMP11) from November 30 to December 11, 2015.
