Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium that infects the inner lining of the stomach. Contamination occurs in childhood and can lead to inflammation of the stomach that usually goes unnoticed. However, it can cause digestive disorders (discomfort, pain) and can sometimes progress to an ulceror even more rarely towards a stomach cancer.
Inform the patient about the disease and the treatment
In 2017, the High Authority for Health (HAS) and the National Professional Council for Hepato-Gastroenterology carried out an update in diagnostics and treatment, emphasizing in particular the importance of informing the patient in his adherence to the treatment. To ensure this good follow-up, the health authorities have just published two information sheets, one on “The search for Helicobacter pylori” and the other on “Helicobacter pylori treatment“. The first presents the different causes leading to the search for the bacterium as well as the examinations to diagnose the infection. The second explains the principle and the course of the treatment, its side effects and the essential control after treatment to ensure elimination of the bacteria.
“These sheets have been tested with patients to ensure that they are understandable, explanatory, likely to promote exchanges with the doctor and facilitate adherence to treatment” explains the HAS.
“These sheets are ideally intended to be given by the doctor during the consultation, but they will also be available directly on our sitesupplemented by an online FAQ” adds the High Authority.
