There is an association between childhood height and increased risk cardiovascular as an adult, according to results of a study published in the medical journal Stroke.
Despite a large number of studies looking at height and health for many decades, there are still many unknowns about how the two interact.
Researchers from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands conducted a study with 300,000 Dutch schoolchildren over 60 years.
The results of the study showed that boys and girls who were 5 to 7.6 cm shorter than the average between the ages of 7 and 13 had a higher risk in adulthood of making stroke so-called ischemic in both sexes, and cerebral hemorrhages in men.
On the other hand, taller people suffer more from a heart rhythm abnormality called atrial fibrillation and Marfan syndrome, a genetic disease of the connective tissues that make up the heart, which can be accompanied by heart valve problems and abnormalities of the aorta.
Recommendations to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease
Small or tall, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, it is necessary to take into account coronary risk factors and adopt healthy lifestyle habits, in terms of nutritionofphysical activity and lifestyle.
