Whether it’s our spouse, our children, family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors or the people we meet occasionally, human relationships all contribute, to varying degrees, to our experience of happiness.
Indeed, our family and friendly relations are virtuous and beneficial. They bring us love, support and meaning and boost our self-esteem.
The link between happiness and social relationships
Maintaining good relations with the people around you is a major factor well-being; it is perhaps even the most important criterion for being happy.
Whether family, friends or social, your relationships are precious, especially in difficult times.
A study conducted at Harvard showed that when you have the active support of those around you, you keep your good mood and we maintain health capital. Conclusion: we live longer!
Your relationships with others have ups and downs, that’s normal! You can hardly anticipate thoughts and reactions people you meet. You don’t have the power to change them either.
What you can do, however, is manage how you react when you disagree with someone: anger, contempt, indifference or, on the contrary, benevolence, empathy, understanding, forgiveness… Choose your camp.
“Friendship requires a lot of effort, it requires knowing how to offer what we hold dearest in life: time! »
Catherine Deneuve
As happiness and social relations are closely linked, today you will try to take the first step to strengthen a bond with someone who matters in your life.
Here are three ideas I thought of for you:
- Contact someone you like to say hello to him and tell him that you are thinking of him.
- Call a friend and take a genuine interest in what’s going on in their life by listening attentively and asking questions to fuel the conversation.
- Think of someone who has a particular quality (whom you admire) and tell him how much you respect his talent.
By taking a close interest in others, you will sow emotion and joy around you. So you try…
What personal relationship will you strengthen today and how?
