In 2008, approximately 5 months after the start of the hearing, the psychiatrist was sentenced to 18 months suspended sentence for “manslaughter” – the family of the victim had then expressed their “relief”.
A cassation appeal is being considered
At the time, the doctor appealed the verdict. This Tuesday, May 15, 2018, the Grenoble Court of Appeal nevertheless confirmed the conviction. Dr. Lekhraj Gujadhur, now in his seventies and retired, was not present during the announcement – his lawyer, Me Jean-Yves Balestas, expressed his “big disappointment” and said: “it is quite likely that one will appeal in cassation ”. This conviction is a first in France.
