Google, Microsoft, Apple and Mozilla improve browsing experience

Google, Microsoft, Apple and Mozilla want to improve the browsing experience by working together to improve interoperability.

As a result, the companies’ browsers, Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox respectively, should be able to offer the same consistent and reliable experience. The new collaboration will be Interop 2022 mentioned. The goal behind the project is to remove various pain points for developers so that they can focus on building websites rather than circumventing restrictions or taking specific requirements into account.

Browser makers join forces

Interop 2022 is a benchmark that focuses on fifteen different parts of modern browsers. These are parts that give web developers a headache. Google, Microsoft, Apple and Mozilla, as well as lesser-known players like Bocoup and Igalia, now agree that their browsers (and web technologies) behave in exactly the same way within those territories. Some of the goals the parties take out Compat 2021† a joint effort that Google presented at the end of 2021. With this, Google had already tried to bring browsers closer together.

If you find this an interesting development, you can dashboard of Interop 2022 follow the progress of the different browser makers. In addition, the makers explain on the website what all the numbers mean and why they are important. Interop 2022 is a project that will take years, but in the end should yield a positive result for everyone – including users. This may give some small(er) players a better chance of survival, giving innovations more room in the long term.
