Five years from now we will be able to be warned of a disease without even going to the doctor. In any case, this is the project on which Google X, Google’s research laboratory, is working. Details of the current program were explained during a conference organized by the Wall Street Journal.
It relies on a pill made up of magnetic nanoparticles that can travel through the bloodstream and register the presence of chemicals, proteins, molecules or malignant cells associated with diseases like cancer.
The objective of this new tool would be to enable patients to monitor their state of health in real time and to “detect” a disease even before it is diagnosed by a doctor.
“All the tests that you would normally do at a doctor’s office will be done by this system,” says Andrew Conrad, director of Google X Life Sciences. An impossible challenge? “A dream”, for the google team who hopes it will come true.
Google X previously caused a stir when it announced a partnership with pharmaceutical company Novartis to develop smart contact lenses that measure blood sugar diabetic patients.
