Emmanuel Macron’s campaign promise to reimburse certain optical equipment, hearing aids and prosthetic dental care at 100% will come into effect, according to an announcement in the Official newspaper Saturday January 12. The measure was passed by Parliament in 2018 and will be applied step by step.
100% social security coverage
What does the decree “remain at zero charge” mean? That Social Security will take the reimbursement of the products concerned 100% at its expense, without the insured having to complete. It concerns all policyholders. That said, this reform comes with conditions. This will not apply to all optical equipment, hearing aids and dentures. They will also have to respect the price ceilings. The decree details all the conditions for 100% coverage according to the areas.
It also specifies that the remainder at zero charge”applies to contracts taken out or renewed from January 1, 2020 for the provisions relating to optics and dental and from January 1, 2021 for the provisions relating to hearing aids“.
A committee will monitor the progress and compliance with the reform
A “100% health” reform monitoring committee will be created. The decree states:This committee is responsible for evaluating the implementation of the reform of the coverage of dental services and equipment, medical optics and audiology.“Every two years, the committee must submit to the ministers responsible for health and social security a report with the practices observed and, if necessary, recommendations. It will replace the observatory of prices and optical medical.
