Remember the PlayDate console from Panic that was supposed to come out this year? Unfortunately, the PlayDate has been postponed out of necessity.
Ever since the announcement by Panic, the console has attracted a lot of attention. It was announced this summer that the company had already sold 20,000 units of the thing within 20 minutes of opening sales. In short, the console is an absolute hit. All the more painful is the news that the PlayDate has unfortunately been postponed.
That announcement comes from Panic. They have discovered a critical problem related to the battery. The problem is so extensive that there is no other option than to delay the console. This issue came to light while production was already in full swing. An expensive joke for Panic. They will have to adapt the already produced ones by replacing the batteries with a new one. Panic has also teamed up with another battery supplier.
PlayDate postponed to 2022
The first group of customers would initially receive the console this year. Unfortunately this won’t work. Like the other group of customers, the device will not appear on the doormat until 2022 because the PlayDate has now been postponed. Panic does have positive news to report as a result of the postponement. The company says the new battery will bring improvements to the PlayDate’s battery life. Every disadvantage has its advantage, shall we say.
