Chiropodists offer free consultations in France on the occasion of World Foot Health Day. To prevent painful pathologies.
Free consultations to take care of your feet. This is what theFrench Union for Foot Health (UFSP), on the occasion of the World Day dedicated to this lower limb. The French are not big walkers – few are those who manage to achieve the 10,000 recommended steps each day – but that does not prevent them from suffering from the feet. In 2015, 62% of them complained of pain.
For Djamel Bouhabib, podiatrist and president of the UFSP, “we are not aware of the importance of having healthy feet. “In fact, consultations with the podiatrist are still too rare, probably because bad reimbursement. Yet it is a crucial part of the body, which supports the rest of the body.
“The foot is the reflection of our personality,” said the President of the Union. Everyone would do well to be inspired by this statement because foot diseases can be very disabling. Focus on four of them.
Ingrown toenail
Ingrown toenail initially presents as an injury caused by the stiff edge of the nail, but it can become infected. Most often, the big toe is affected by this problem. Certain elements favor the appearance of an ingrown toenail: a too aggressive cut, in a semi-circle, but also excessive sweating, wearing shoes that are too narrow, trauma to the nail or a disorder of the foot support. . In the latter case, a diagnosis by the podiatrist, and corrective measures can solve the problem.
The lightbulbs
The bulbs are well known to athletes and followers of heels. They are the consequence of heating of the skin of the foot, which results in the creation of a vesicle filled with serum or blood. Once pierced, these wounds must be disinfected just like wounds because they risk becoming infected. Again, wearing the right size and properly fitting shoes helps avoid complications, as does using thick cotton socks.
Corns, calluses, partridge eye
During excessive friction or conflicts between a relief of the foot and the shoe, the skin can thicken. Depending on the area concerned, various hyperkeratoses occur. Calluses appear especially on the soles of the feet, in athletes for example. Corns are found mainly on the backs of the toe joints and are painful when walking. When they get complicated, a partridge eye develops.
Wearing shoes that are too tight, unsuitable for walking or the shape of the foot, promotes this thickening of the skin. The elderly, athletes and diabetics are particularly exposed to it as well as people with flat or hollow feet.
Hallux valgus
The onion, named Hallux valgus, is an abnormal deviation at the base of the big toe. It most often affects adults – in 90% of cases it occurs around 40-50 years – but it can appear as early as 10 years. When friction occurs when walking, inflammatory pain may appear. Hallux valgus also evolves in painful, unpredictable outbreaks. However, it is possible to stabilize it by corrective measures.
