Also good for you to know
In many European countries you can count on Flitsmeister to remind you to keep to the speed limit when approaching a checkpoint. Even mobile speed cameras are often reported by the app. The condition is that your phone has good range. Something a Dutchman experienced in a painful way in Belgium, where he was flashed ten times by the same speed camera. Flitsmeister does not always work in tunnels, and that is quite logical.
Flitsmeister doesn’t always work in tunnels
The man sent us a photo of the fine envelopes. We then inquired with Flitsmeister about the coverage abroad. A spokesperson confirms to TopGear that the coverage in Belgium is just fine, but that the GPS signal in tunnels can indeed be lost. The app does not know exactly where you are and does not provide notifications about speed cameras. As soon as the GPS signal is found again, Flitsmeister will work again.
A little consolation
Flitsmeister felt sorry for the fine collector and offered the man a Flitsmeister One as a small consolation. The device does not help in tunnels, but it does ensure that Flitsmeister starts up automatically when you get into the car. It also gives an extra sound and light signal that reminds you even better that you have to stick to the speed in the vicinity of a speed camera or speed check.
Where does Flitsmeister work?
You can actually turn on Flitsmeister throughout Europe. In most countries, the fixed checks are included. Mobile speed cameras are only known to the app if they are reported. So another FM user must have passed by already. The app does not work in Cyprus, Turkey and South-East Macedonia because there is a ban on speed cameras in those countries. In Germany, officially only the passengers are allowed to see where the speed cameras are and adjust it to the driver.
