We were allowed to work with the new OPPO Find N for a few days. Our first impression of this foldable smartphone is positive!
After Samsung and Huawei, the foldable smartphone is now really starting to become normal. The Chinese tech giant has launched the Find N in its home country of China. At this stage, the smartphone is not yet available in the Netherlands, but OPPO Netherlands did have a copy at home. And Apparata was allowed to taste that OPPO Find N. Not an extensive review, but a first impression.
Small is beautiful

Measuring 5.49-inches for the outside display and 7.1-inches for the inside display, the Find N isn’t quite as big as the giants from Samsung and Huawei. And funnily enough, that handy format works very well. It is a kind of small tablet when unfolded. Ideal for watching YouTube videos, or for reading something in bed in the evening. And yes know it. Sitting on your smartphone before bed is not good for you. But this one was for science, of course.

Despite its small size, the OPPO is not a lightweight. Where a normal smartphone weighs between 180 and 210 grams, the Find N is good for a weight of 275 grams. You can feel that in your hands. This is not immediately annoying, but if you let the smartphone rest in your hands for a longer period of time, you will feel it. Let me put it this way.

OPPO Find N specs
The Chinese price is converted to 1.075 euros. With VAT and import duties, the final price for our country will be a bit higher. Expensive, but that’s the price you have to pay if early adopter. The principle of the foldable smartphone is not new, but of course it is for OPPO. The specifications are fine.
The OPPO Find N comes in two variants. With 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. The latter costs converted € 1,255. Again, I must say that this is an indicative price. The Find N is available in purple, white and black. We test a black copy.

The power of this foldable smartphone comes from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. The device has a 4,500mAh battery and can charge 33W fast with SuperVOOC fast charging technology. Wireless charging is also possible with a maximum of 15W and 10W reverse wireless charging. There is a fingerprint scanner on the side. The camera setup is a 50 MP + 16 MP + 13 MP island. The cameras are stacked on top of each other.
First impression
The first impression of the OPPO Find N is.. positive! It really feels like a quality high-end phone. Might as well for that price I hear you think. Yes, I agree. At the same time, we have seen much more expensive folding smartphones in the past (first generation Samsung Galaxy Fold, for example) of significantly lower quality. The display gives a good feeling and you do not immediately see a seam. Only when you move your finger over the screen do you feel it a bit in the middle, but it is certainly not a disturbing factor.
We know from the recent Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 that various apps are optimized for the folding screen. This means that the phone is smart enough to separate the content of an app in both screens. The OPPO Find N cannot (yet) do this. This means that with various apps, the content runs across the screen when you place the phone in a folded state. See photo to understand what I mean. Ignore the Chinese language. This copy has English as its working language, with several pre-installed apps.

Conclusion
OPPO wants to show that they can do it with this foldable smartphone. And we mean making a foldable smartphone. And not a word was lied to. The Chinese tech company has understood the principle well and has put down a high-quality smartphone here. While the phone is not yet available here in Europe, the use case will also be small. These types of smartphones are really for lovers of new technology who also want to and can pay a matching price tag. It was cool to get started with the compact foldable smartphone for a few days. Thumbs up to OPPO, which has taken an interesting direction with this Find N.
