The merger of the PSA and FCA groups to create Stellantis led to a reorganization of the ranges and production capacities of the many brands concerned. Especially since the Euro-American giant will stop marketing thermal engine cars in Europe by 2030. In this context, Fiat wants to be reassuring about the future of its icon, the 500. The new 100% electric generation of the city car, launched in 2020 and currently cohabiting with its thermal predecessor, will be replaced once it reaches the end of its commercial cycle.

A more classic commercial life for the 500 electric
As part of the specialization of Stellantis brands to avoid any internal competition, Fiat is refocusing on small vehicles. The next electric 500 is expected for 2027. Its cycle is therefore much shorter than that of the thermal model, present in the catalog since 2007. A replacement dictated above all by the deployment of the new STLA Small platform, which will be inaugurated by the Peugeot e-208 (P31) in 2026 and which will replace the current technical base developed by Fiat. At this very early stage of the project, it is difficult to give more details.
The future 500 still produced in Turin
Like the current one, the future 500 electric will be produced in the Italian plant in Mirafiori, in the suburbs of Turin, a historic Fiat industrial site inaugurated in 1939. These facilities will be dedicated to electrified models from Stellantis. Currently, the thermal 500 is assembled in Tychy, Poland. ” The current cycle and the next generation of the new Fiat 500, with their full range of electric motors, will have Turin as their sole origin to serve the world “, announces Stellantis. The current model will soon be joined on the assembly lines by the future Maserati GranTurismo, GranCabrio and Quattroporte.
