An indefinite strike ordered by surgeons, private anesthetists and interns risks creating havoc in clinics and hospitals.
Beware that there is a risk of jamming in the emergency services from next Monday … An indefinite strike is in preparation among surgeons, anesthesiologists and liberal obstetrician-gynecologists as well as interns in public hospitals. This movement of discontent from doctors, in particular opposed to the agreement signed on October 25 on excess fees, is likely to delay certain interventions. “From November 12, we unfortunately call for the cessation of activities“, Philippe Cuq, vascular surgeon and president of the Union of Surgeons of France (UCDF), told the press.
The mobilization also brings together anesthetists and obstetricians who refused to sign the agreement. The liberal doctors in exercise and the interns aspiring to practice in liberal, reproach the agreement signed with the health insurance and the complementary health of setting a ceiling too low for the overruns (150% of the Social Security rate), with regard to the charges supported by block specialists.
“The overruns are also used to finance technological innovation, such as robots or ceolioscopic techniques”, explains Philippe Cuq. These “angry” doctors are skeptical of promises, little kept in the past, to revalue Social Security rates and deplore the reluctance of complementary companies to reimburse overruns.
Nearly 10,000 professionals are concerned. The movement, the duration of which is deliberately not specified, risks causing the closures of operating theaters, and will primarily concern private clinics. “We have canceled or postponed all our surgeries and consultations,” explains Dr Didier Legeais, urological surgeon in Grenoble and vice president of the UCDF.
Listen to Didier Legeais, vice president of the Union of Surgeons of France (UCDF-: “ We have not set a date for the resumption of our activities “.
What happens to people already hospitalized? “It is out of the question not to continue to take care of them, to treat them, but we are postponing non-vital emergencies”, explained Dr Didier Legeais.
Listen to Didier Legeais: “All patients who need urgent care will go to the emergency rooms of public hospitals. “
The movement will therefore affect public hospitals not only because of possible transfers of patients, but also with the strike envisaged by interns and heads of clinics, who also denounce their degraded working conditions: non-compliance with rest times , and non-compliance with weekly training times.
At the Public Assistance-Hospitals of Paris (AP-HP), it was indicated to “prepare” for the possible disruptions of this strike. “I hope the government takes the measure of the discontent. Between now and 12 November, we are available and ready to find solutions, ”recalled Dr Philippe Cuq. The movement, supported by the Federation of Private Hospitalization (FHP), should not be continued with a large demonstration on Wednesday November 14 in Paris in front of the Ministry of Health.
