The muscle car manufacturer Equus presents the Scout SUV, which will be available in an electric version. Inspired by the Ford Bronco first of the name, this muscular 4×4 will display a power of 761 hp in a “zero emission” variant.
In 2014, the young American manufacturer Equus made himself known and noticed with the Bass770, a 649 hp muscle car openly inspired by the most muscular Ford Mustangs of the late 1960s. The firm put the cover back in 2018 with the Throwback, a Chevrolet Corvette C7 re-bodied and pushed to more than 1000 hp. Equus today unveils its first SUV, called Scout, which will also be the brand’s first model to be available in an electric version. This currently has the suffix e-concept.
The Ford Bronco reinterpreted
As with its previous creations, Equus was inspired by American automotive icons from the 1960s and 1970s. Here, it is the influence of the first Ford Bronco that predominates, as the manufacturer with the blue oval launches a new generation. of its all-terrain. Some might also see there some similarities with the venerable Lada Niva. There are thus “square” lines which highlight the pronounced inclination of the rear pillars all the more. Under a horizontal hood, “C” lights are embedded at the ends of the thin grille. Visual signature of Equus, two other round headlamps take place in the center of the front bumper. The wheel arches are wide, the ground clearance high, the underpinnings protected, and the vertical taillights are an explicit nod to those of the Bronco. The body is made of aluminum and carbon fiber.
The cabin receives a digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen and few buttons, but Equus has taken care to make the technology visually discreet to stay true to its “vintage” vibe associated with modern equipment. The horizontal dashboard is refined. Leather rubs shoulders with aluminum and wood inside.
Equus promises a varied offer
The three-door Equus Scout is 4.57m long, 1.99m wide, 1.81m high and 2.72m wheelbase. On the five-door model, the wheelbase increases to 2.97 m for a total length of 4.78 m, the vehicle gains 1 cm in height and the width remains the same. The technical sheet of the thermal 4×4 has not yet been communicated. Regarding the electric variant, Equus announces five batteries to choose from with capacities ranging from 105 kWh to 190 kWh and a range of between 400 km and 650 km. The electric Scout is powered by four motors together delivering 761 hp and 1,100 Nm of torque to all four wheels, enough to go from 0 to 60 mph (96 km / h) in 3 s and exceed 190 km / h at peak speed. after the builder.
The Scout is due to go into production in Q4 2023; no tariff has yet been announced. Equus will not stop there and is already planning a luxury SUV called Stallion, a new generation of Bass770, an improved Throwback as well as a mysterious project called Equus X.
