Epic Games and Lego
They don’t have much yet reported about the collaboration, but they plan to “shape the future of the metaverse to make it safe and fun for kids and families.” For the collaboration, they have agreed on a number of principles that they will follow during the collaboration. They promised:
- Protect children’s right to play by making safety and well-being a priority;
- Protect children’s privacy by putting their best interests first;
- Give kids and adults tools that put them in control of their digital experience.
These three principles will guide as they “build an immersive, creatively inspiring and engaging digital experience” that people of all ages can enjoy.
Vision
There is no timeline when all this beauty is coming. But it’s a good combination, because Epic is perhaps the most important example of a kid-friendly metaverse in Fortnite. The battle royale modes, countless crossovers, concerts, movie nights and creative islands have made Fortnite a hugely popular virtual space where people go to hang out.
But Lego also has experience in this. Think of the long-running franchise of licensed games, including one that appeared in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga this week. We are curious what will come of this collaboration, presumably they want to compete with Roblox, among other things.
