Elden Ring is an outright hit with a sales record that has not been equaled in the past 6 years!
Once every few years a game comes out that everyone and their mother seem to be interested in. Often these are casual Pokémon Go-style games or a new one GTA† But in 2022 it will be Elden Ring that is rushing over the counter like a hot sandwich. And that’s quite striking given the extremely challenging nature of the game.
Elden Ring sales record
Elden Ring is the largest new intellectual property (IP) in Europe since 2016’s The Division. This means that there has been no new ones game came out that was as popular as Elden Ring.
The vast majority of copies of the game were sold for PC. 44% of Elden Ring players play on the computer. Furthermore, 27% play on the PlayStation 5, 16% on the Xbox Series X and One (combined) and 13% on the PS4.
In February, Horizon Forbidden West, produced by the Dutch studio, was in second place. The open world game is the biggest release for the PlayStation 5 to date after Call of Duty.
rock hard fantasy
The solid sales record of Elden Ring is striking, since the game is completely inaccessible given the extreme fantasy and hard combat. The game is set in a very dark fantasy world (penned by Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin, by the way). That is already a big turn off for many.
In addition, the combat of this Soulsborne incredibly challenging. The term of this subgenre has been given to two franchises, Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Both games come from FromSoftware, yes, the creator of Elden Ring. They are games with a gritty open world where unknown monsters will kill you again and again. The game format revolves around continuous dying, upgrading and dodging all attacks with utmost concentration. It now appears to be more popular than ever!
