The French College of Anesthesiologists is launching a campaign to encourage doctors to be followed by a health professional.
It is often said that shoemakers are the worst shod. What about the most poorly treated doctors? This is what the French College of Anesthesiologists (CFAR) suggests. On March 31, he is launching a campaign aimed at all health professionals. And invites them to find an attending physician. Because those who treat us have a bad habit of turning to self-medication.
The slogan does not shine by its originality, but it is effective: “Say, doc, do you have your doc? The question is justified: 80% of practitioners do not have an attending physician – just like 41% of interns and young physicians. The objective of the CFAR, to achieve 100% follow-up for these health professionals.
60% self-prescriptions
Because our caregivers are not supermen, they too get sick. But when it does, they favor self-diagnosis and self-medication. A habit that is not necessarily recommendable. Indeed, it should be remembered, 12 to 16% of interns have already had suicidal thoughts and one in two working professionals say they have burned out. A discomfort that echoes on prescriptions. Not to mention that, according to DREES, 60% of antidepressants consumed in the profession are self-prescribed.
Added to this is a physical health which often leaves much to be desired. The study of Drees, published in 2010, reports that 30% of general practitioners report at least one chronic disease. However, they are more serious in terms of prevention and risky behavior. For example, the dangers of smoking are better understood.
Conversely, the consumption of psychotropic drugs is similar to that in the general population. No wonder: fatigue, stress and lack of sleep are common problems with our caregivers.
