A test of an autonomous truck in China
Set up the navigation, press start and then crank up the laptop yourself Euro Truck Simulator 2 to go play. Or Lawn Mowing Simulator, if you like that better. The American company Plus sees a super market in this. They are busy working on trucks that can drive completely independently. Last week they did a successful test with a driverless truck on the highway.
The autonomous truck was released on a highway in China. The driverless truck can drive independently according to level 4 – this is the second highest level. The only thing that is not possible at this level is driving under extreme conditions such as severe weather. At level 5, none of the occupants need to have a driver’s license.
The route of this driverless truck was on a brand new highway. In principle, there are no extreme circumstances or strange situations. This was the first time the Chinese government has issued a permit for an autonomous test of a Level 4 truck. Plus does not yet offer fully autonomous trucks, but there is no government that allows it either. There is, however, PlusDrive, which offers the kind of functions that you already find in passenger cars.
