Real plagues of summer, blisters can ruin your holidays. We explain how to solve this problem.
- Protecting against infection, blisters are “natural bandages” for our skin.
- It is only when the blister is infected, or turns black, that the blister should be pierced.
At a time when summer is in full swing, holidaymakers have the opportunity to (re)take out their sandals and walk the beaches with a light mind. Nevertheless, this season brings its share of problems and one of them can become very problematic: blisters.
Breaking a light bulb, bad idea!
Unavoidable during this period, blisters appear when the skin rubs a sweaty area. If in the first days, it is benign, the blister can quickly become annoying, even painful. “In the practice, this represents 1 reason for consultation out of 3. In general, patients come when the stage of the blister is more advanced”explains podiatrist Stéphane Toledano on the site Marie Claire.
Faced with this problem, the reflex of piercing the blister with a needle or tearing off the skin seems to be an effective solution. “Especially not! If the blister is pierced, the wound is exposed to bacteria, and therefore to infections”, warns the podiatrist. According to the specialist, wearing a bandage is strongly recommended during the first stage of phlyctene, the scientific term for the blister.
Have the right reflexes
“The risk with blisters is that they become infected. So first, we clean the area with soap and water or with an antiseptic such as mercurochrome or eosin”, explains Doctor Isabelle Rousseau to 20 minutes. It is only when the bulb is infected, or turns black – because full of blood after a shock – that it will be necessary to pierce the blister.
For his part, Dr. Toledano calls for being very vigilant and constantly checking the skin. “When you walk without socks, you have to examine your feet every hour during walks. If an area is red, the skin is stressed.”
