In Dijon, a 14-year-old girl spent several days in hospital after contracting an ear infection from a piercing made at Claire’s. If she has been operated on, her ear will remain deformed for life, according to her mother, who does not rule out filing a complaint against the company.
A story of piercing that turns into a nightmare. A 14-year-old girl developed a serious ear infection after having her ear cartilage pierced in Dijon (Côte-d’Or), reports the regional daily The Public Good this week.
At the beginning of September, accompanied by her family, Chloé goes to the Claire’s store in the La Toison d’Or shopping center to have her cartilage pierced. “Four days later, her ear had become huge and it was impossible to remove the piercing,” her mother testified on Facebook. The young girl then goes to the doctor who prescribes her antibiotics while a piercer finally succeeds in removing the piercing which apparently was made for the lobe only.
But nothing to do: the infection does not pass. On Wednesday September 5, Chloe therefore goes to the emergency room where the doctors explain to her that this was caused by poorly cleaned equipment and, as the piercer had indicated, an unsuitable piercing. “My daughter had to be operated on the same evening and remained six days in the hospital. She will therefore have her deformed ear all her life”, protests the mother.
Claire’s international
Faced with the scandal, the head office of Claire’s international defended itself to the Good public. “Our piercing procedure, as well as all of our instruments, materials and models of ear piercing earrings are designed to offer a piercing experience in optimal conditions of hygiene and safety”. “The company must speak with the client and investigate what could have happened,” he said.
On Thursday, September 13, the company sent a message to Chloe’s mother via Facebook. “We care about our customers and their well-being,” she would have assured him, offering in passing a refund and a gift certificate of 128.49 euros. A proposal “inadmissible” for the family of the victim who possibly plans to file a complaint.
