This is a side effect of the various successive confinements. The cabin syndrome results in anxiety about leaving home and confronting the outside world.
A few hours away from reuniting with the terraces of restaurants and cafes, cultural establishments and shops, the French are delighted to find again ” a normal life “. However, some of us do not see it the same way and feel fear and many prejudices to find the outside. This phenomenon has a name “Cabin syndrome” where the “Snail syndrome”. However, this is not madness, on the contrary, everyone has their reasons to justify this discomfort. It can be the fear of being contaminated on the terrace, of being in contact with the world in public places or the simple pleasures that our home offers. For months, single people or couples have taken refuge in a bubble far from any social life. “Since confinement, I have put myself in a kind of comfort bubble, with a wall that has become thicker and thicker every day. And today, it is very hard for me to get out of it ”, for example Marco testified to 20 minutes .
Fear of the outside world
This desire to stay snuggled up at home obviously exists before the Covid-19 and its many confinements. But the latter have accentuated all this. Asked by France Info, psychoanalyst Sophie Braun explained that it is necessary to act cautiously towards people with “Cabin syndrome”, who fear deconfinement. “You really have to take it slow. It should be understood that these are anxieties and that it is suffering. These are not people who no longer want to go out. These are people who can no longer go out. It’s quite different ”.
A year ago the Parisian revealed through a study, called Covadapt, that deconfinement is much more difficult to live with than confinement. Between sleep, symptoms of stress or even anxiety and depression, being reclusive at home would offer a form of “shield” on the world for people with this syndrome.
How to get rid of it?
Step by step, it is possible to come out of its little cocoon. The best way is to set goals and schedule mini-outings before embarking on a long walk. On the first day, for example, it is possible to walk a few meters in his street. The second is to pick up a package or go to a store. According to specialists, it is important to be patient so as not to face head-on different sources of stress that can be encountered outside.
