The government recently expanded the list of countries from which a quarantine is imposed on travelers in order to curb the Covid-19 epidemic as much as possible. Since midnight Saturday, travelers returning from twelve countries must thus isolate themselves for a period of ten days.
Mandatory quarantine for travelers returning from 12 countries
Since April 24, five countries were already subject to a quarantine for travelers entering French territory. These are Brazil, India, Chile, South Africa and Argentina. As the government announced last Friday, this quarantine will now also apply to travelers arriving from Turkey, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. In total, therefore, twelve countries are affected by this isolation measure for travelers due to the significant circulation of the epidemic of coronavirus and its variants.
This measure came into effect on Saturday May 8, 2021 at midnight, after publication on Saturday morning of the related decree. On the government website, we can read as follows: “ No theft should be the Trojan horse of a new variant. Also, travelers from seven additional countries must observe a mandatory 10-day quarantine. “.
Mandatory PCR test and ten-day quarantine
In practice, travelers coming from one of the twelve paid concerned must present a negative PCR test of less than 36 hours to enter the territory and carry out an antigen test when they leave the plane. In addition, they must declare their place of quarantine in France to the airline company using supporting documents. They will then have to remain isolated for ten days in this place. Only an exit permission between 10 a.m. and noon is authorized.
In the event of non-compliance with this quarantine, the system provides for a fine of 1,000 euros and 1,500 euros in the event of a repeat offense. In this regard, government spokesman Gabriel Attal said last Wednesday that “ 1,500 checks “Have already been carried out” with people in quarantine and 141 people fined “.
