A little “liposuction” for my Barbie?
“This unhappy young girl has so many extra pounds that no diet can help her. In our clinic, she can benefit from an operation called liposuction which will make her beautiful and slim. We need to make small incisions in the problem areas to suck up the excess fat. Are you going to operate Doctor? “. This was the description of this application launched in January 2013 by a publisher also offering games like “Barbie Dentist” and “Barbie foot surgery”.
Hundreds of Internet users mobilized against this game
It was in the first place on the twitter account entitled “Everyday Sexism” that the alert was launched concerning this game. Shocked by this application advocating thinness and trivializing the acts of surgery to an audience of young girls , hundreds of Internet users then expressed their indignation on social networks. To obtain its ban, “Everyday Sexism” in particular advised all the people wishing it among these 117,000 subscribers, to send a message of complaint to the iTunes store and to Google Play which hosted a similar children’s game. Retweeted more than 800 times, the information concerning this game “disgusting” or “sexist” according to Internet users has still led Apple to withdraw the application in question. In addition, another game of the same type, entitled “Plastic surgery for Barbara” has also been criticized by Internet users. Google has already withdrawn this other application.
