Coronavirus: should we be afraid (also) for our pets?

In addition, for Dr Sophie Le Poder, veterinarian, questioned by our colleagues from Science and Futurea transmission of the Covid-19 coronavirus from animals to humans falls under the “science fiction“: “20 years ago, we did not note any transmission to domestic animals of the virus responsible for SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) when it looked very similar to that of Covid-19 disease. (…) For a virus, going from one species to another is not something simple.“Reassuring…
And the feline coronavirus?
The coronavirus exists in animals… but it has nothing to do with the Covid-19 coronavirus responsible for the current epidemic! Cats can thus be contaminated by two viruses of the coronavirus family: FeCV (Feline Enteric Coronavirus) and FIPV (Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus). Transmission is via the stool, and the disease manifests through weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration.
