A judicial investigation would have been opened against the Lactalis group following the complaint of 3 parents of children contaminated by infant milks containing salmonella.
According to several corroborating sources, legal proceedings have been opened against Lactalis, following the salmonella epidemic observed in France in infants. It is a question of “shedding light on the conditions under which this contamination took place”, according to point.
The Paris Tribunal de Grande Instance
Complaints from parents of infected children have reportedly been lodged with the public health center of the Paris Tribunal de Grande Instance. A preliminary investigation would have been opened in order to shed full light on the contamination of infant milk which led to the infection of 35 infants. This milk is contaminated by a species of salmonella, fortunately not very dangerous (Salmonella agona) and it was produced at the Craon site (Mayenne) of the company Lactalis.
According to our colleagues at Le Point, who claim to have exclusive information, this investigation was entrusted to the Central Office for the Fight against Attacks on the Environment and Public Health (Oclaesp), as well as to the research section of ‘Angers.
3 complaints from parents of infected children
This investigation was opened following complaints from parents for: “unintentional injuries with ITT less than 3 months by manifestly deliberate violation of a particular obligation of caution or safety”, “endangering the life of others”, ” deception aggravated by danger to human health ”and“ failure to carry out a procedure for the withdrawal or recall of a product injurious to health ”.
At the beginning of last week, the consumer association UFC-Que Choisir announced that it would also file a complaint against Lactalis for deception.
A general withdrawal of Lactalis lots
As a reminder, 35 infants have been contaminated since mid-August by batches of infant milk produced by the company Lactalis.
For 31 of these infants, it was proved that the contamination of milk with Salmonella agona came from the Craon plant and would be linked to work which would have been carried out there in the first quarter of 2017.
After initially withdrawing a few batches, the company Lactalis proceeded with the withdrawal from the national and international market of all infantile and nutritional products “manufactured or packaged” in its factory in Craon, in Mayenne, since February 15th.
The withdrawal concerns Picot brand products (infant powders and cereals), Milumel (infant powders and cereals) and Taranis (powdered mixtures of amino acids intended for the treatment of pathologies), according to Lactalis. The company has set up a toll-free number (0 800 120 120) to inform consumers.
