In this comparison, we put the brand new flagship killer Google Pixel 6 Pro next to the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
google announced the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro last night. The brand new smartphone series is making giant leaps forward and may even establish Google in the flagship killer category. In fact, you can easily conclude that with the following comparison: the Google Pixel 6 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra vs iPhone 13 Pro Max. The only drawback: Google does not release the Pixel 6 series in the Netherlands, but there are plenty of ways around it.
Comparison: Google Pixel 6 Pro is a flagship killer
Currently there are two established flagships that have to deliver the best of the best. Both the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra like the new one iPhone 13 Pro Max cost about €1250 euros (recommended price). For Android and iOS enthusiasts respectively, this is the crème de la crème.
And then suddenly there was Google, with a monster of its own flagship. For €900 euros, the search giant delivers a smartphone that is fully equipped. The Galaxy S21 Ultra makes mincemeat of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but Google makes mincemeat of the S21 Ultra for that price.
Balancing excess
As can be seen from the comparison below, Google is doing roughly the same on all fronts with the Pixel 6 Pro as Samsung. But just a little more budget-friendly. Instead of a 108MP main camera, Google opts for a reasonable 50MP. And unless you want to print photos on a 10×10 meter canvas, that’s more than enough. Instead of the completely unnecessary 16GB RAM, Google keeps it neat at 12GB. Instead of an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner (literally), Google opts for a very decent in-display optical scanner.
In short, on paper, Google delivers slightly less than Samsung in those areas. The question is whether that matters in practice. In all of the above cases, this is hardly the case, unless you have very specific requirements. What, on the other hand, is practically noticeable is the saving of about €350.

sample processor
And then there’s the brand new Google Tensor SoC. It is the first time that Google makes its own processor. It is made up of well-known cores of Arm Cortex cores that all correspond to the Samsung Exynos 2100. Although the clock speeds have a slightly different ratio, the Google Tensor roughly corresponds to Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra-SoC. The Mali G78 GPU is also exactly the same.
Conclusion
It’s no secret that Google aims just a little below the absolute high-tech top with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, as you can see in the comparison below. What’s interesting about this device, on the other hand, is the bridge it bridges between Samsung’s superior opulence and elegant efficiency apple.
The Pixel 6 Pro is on paper a monster smartphone that, for a starting price of 900 euros, remains far from the absurd amounts of the Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max. And that flirts with the flagship killer energy that’s been missing in the smartphone industry for a while.
