Indeed, for twenty years, the figures have been worrying. Accidents of everyday life, consequences of everyday, involuntary or even banal actions must above all be seen for what they really are: avoidable tragedies which have caused nearly 19,000 deaths (i.e. 4 times more accidents of the road), 4.5 million injuries, and 11 million annual accidents!
They are the 3rd cause of death after cancer and cardiovascular diseases and particularly affect the elderly: 2 out of 3 deaths from AcVC occur after 74 years and children (1st cause of death in children aged 1 to 14) .
These accidents are preventable
As shown in the White Paper on the prevention of home accidents, the causes of these accidents are multiple (product safety, reckless behavior, inadequate housing, etc.).
Of the 11 million accidents that occur each year, more than a third involve an emergency room consultation (1,200 people are hospitalized every day). The direct costs (consultations, care, hospitalizations, examinations, equipment, etc.) and indirect costs (work stoppages, acceleration of dependency) are assessed at 10% of the total cost of care in France.
Declaring the prevention of everyday accidents A great national cause will raise awareness, encourage the definition of an interministerial policy, and mobilize all stakeholders! The goal: To convince citizens that these accidents are preventable: through the adoption of simple actions and principles of precautions and the use of protective equipment.
