The chip shortage continues
It’s still not how it should be when it comes to car sales – in the Netherlands, but also worldwide. All over the world, companies, not just car brands, are short of chips for production. As a result, fewer cars can be built and that is reflected in the new sales. In addition, the Bovag believes that corona also has a share in the declining sales.
In October 2021, 24,240 new cars were registered. That is a decrease of 23.7 percent compared to October last year. And then we were also full in the corona time. It does not mean that more cars have not been sold. Once a deal has been concluded, it only counts as a new registration when the car is registered.
Still, more people who hear they have to wait another year or more are more likely to look for a used car that they can drive tomorrow. This not only increases the sales of used cars, but also the prices. Supply and demand, as your economics teacher once said. Below you can see the brands with the most registrations and the most popular car models that could be delivered last month.
