Scientists at London University of Kingston conducted a study on the health benefits of certain foods, such as broccoli or blueberries sometimes presented as miraculous. The director of the scientific study, Lucy Jones, explained that although the polyphenols in these foods are very active in the laboratory, they are often less effective in the human body because they cannot pass the intestinal membrane.
Researchers have already tested herbs and aromatics such as parsley, rosemary, sage and thyme, known for their anti-cancer properties. However, the researchers had noticed that despite the positive effects on the small intestine, their impact on the rest of the body was quite limited.
Despite these results, fruits and vegetables remain a good source of fiber and other essential nutrients. Another American scientific study had shown last year that the fact of associating with broccoli condiments like mustard, black radish and wasabi allowed better digestive absorption by activating the anti-cancer properties of the vegetable.
