It’s finally here, the global reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. What’s new and what can we expect?
You can count on a number of things. A tax assessment every year, the Eurovision Song Contest every year and a new one every year call of Duty† So this time it’s Modern Warfare 2. A bit confusing perhaps. We already had Modern Warfare in 2007 and a second part in 2009. Not a reboot of the second part of Warfare from thirteen years ago, but a game that fits in the list. The trailer, which was thrown into the world earlier, already showed well-known characters such as Soap and Captain Price.
The World Reveal Trailer launched today shows something more. First take a look:
Amsterdam
In addition to the reveal of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, some more details have come out. For example, in the trailer we see well-known characters such as John ‘Soap’ McTavivish’ and Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley. The game has missions in Africa, but also in Amsterdam! A stealth mission where you literally dive into the water of the Amsterdam canals. At the end of the mission, the storming of a canal house is the final piece.
That water has received extra attention from developer Infinity Ward. The water breaks and waves in a believable way and, most importantly, you can swim in this new game. In all modes. Curious how much water we will encounter throughout the game, we expect a lot. Single and multiplayer mode.
What else is new?
New equipment of course! A tactical camera, a ‘decoy’ to lead your enemies astray and a ‘drill charge’. You place this on a wall to shoot right through it. Very useful for the new Prisoner Rescue Mode. One team must rescue hostages or prisoners or neutralize all opponents. The other team must try to prevent this with good cooperation.
Another new mode presented for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the Knockout mode. A six to six situation where you have to hold a bag of money for a minute. If you succeed, you win. Or if you wipe the other team off the face of the earth, you win too.
Large scale battles
Under the term Battle Maps, large-scale battles return as in the Ground War mode. What that will look like exactly and how the small maps and the large maps will be separated and in which modes they will be available, Infinity Ward is still a bit vague about that. More information about this will follow later.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on October 28, 2022 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, and PC.
