The most famous Veyron in the world has a special life story

It remains a fascinating dilemma: what to do with a drowned Bugatti Veyron? On the one hand, the value of the car is high enough to restore it. But who dares to take that risk? Because just find a customer who pays around 1 million euros for a car with such a history. When you spend that much money, you want a true copy, right? And in this case, it is not the case that the car can lead an incognito life abroad – everyone knows the video of the Bugatti Veyron that drove into the water.
The story of this Veyron does not end with the crash. It is a special epic full of intrigue. Ed Bolian van VINwiki explains it completely in the video below, but for those who prefer to read (does such a person still exist in 2021?), we will write it out for you. In 2009 the owner of this Bugatti Veyron deliberately drove his car into the salt water. The goal was to make an excuse about dodging a bird and claiming insurance money. The text continues below the video.

The plan failed
The problem is that such a Veyron attracts quite a bit of attention. Other road users filmed the Veyron as it drove into the sea, but there was no bird. The man was convicted of insurance fraud and had to mope for ten months. Because the insurer had not paid out, the car still belonged to the original owner. He sold the car to a dealer, who took out a loan of about $900,000. The money was intended for the purchase and repair of the Veyron.
A new color
The dealer hired a mechanic to restore the car while painting it white. And then it went wrong again: the dealer went bankrupt. The bank that provided the loan came to collect the car because the dealer was unable to repay the loan. However, the mechanic still had some outstanding bills, which he then wanted to claim from the bank again. After all, they were the new owner of the car. To get rid of the hassle, the bank gave the Veyron – which was still in parts – to the mechanic.
The mechanic sells it
The mechanic chose eggs for his money and sold the Veyron to a local man. He soon found out that he wouldn’t be able to restore the Veyron either and he asked the mechanic to sell the car for him. The mechanic also called in help himself: none other than the first owner (who drove the car into the sea) became responsible for the sale of the car. The asking price was $300,000. The value of a good copy at that time was about 1 million dollars.
The Veyron went to Las Vegas
The car was sold about three years ago, but it was not publicly known who had obtained it. Until the owner of Royalty Exotic Cars in Las Vegas got some requests for parts for the Veyron. The rental company still had a few things lying around. When the deal was close for the parts, the buyer asked if he really wanted to buy the entire project. Then it turned out that it was the famous drowned Bugatti Veyron. A funny detail: the same mechanic who worked on it in 2009 was still working on it.
The Bugatti Veyron that drove into the water is now at Royalty Exotic Cars
The new owner of the Bugatti Veyron with water damage had decided that white was not the right color and had already completely repainted the car to black. In total there was already $ 400,000 in the car, including the purchase. We are now more than a year later and the Bugatti Veyron is almost ready to go. As a loyal Bugatti customer, Royalty was able to shop for parts from the brand, something not many people can do. They had to pump in another $200,000.
Another new paint and new rims
Royalty Exotic Cars does not keep the Bugatti standard. On the schedule are a purple paint and new rims, just to name a few. The old interior is exchanged for a brown leather interior. There are still some issues to solve, such as the $100,000 audio system being broken. Soon you can follow the restoration on the YouTube Channel Royalty Rebuilds.
