Increasing the duration of the night fast would reduce the risk of recurrence of the breast cancer, according to the results of a Study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Researchers at the University of California in San Diego (United States) conducted a study with medical data from 2,413 non-diabetic women in remission from breast cancer and aged from 27 to 70 years old to establish the link between diet, duration of the night fast and the risk of recurrence of a breast cancer.
“Studies have looked at the diet for cancer prevention, but the timing of meals could also matter because it seems to have an effect on metabolism, ”says Catherine Marinac, researcher at the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California at San Diego, senior author of the study.
Improve treatment and simply reduce the risk of recurrence
The results of this research showed that women in remission of a breast cancer who eat during the night increase the risk of their tumor recurring by 36%.
“Extending the nightly fasting interval could be a simple drug-free strategy to reduce the risk of recurrence of breast cancer and other cancers,” said Catherine Marinac.
“If future clinical trials confirm that a prolonged night-time fast improves the health of metabolism, then this finding would be important in reducing the risk of cancers, type diabetes. 2 (adult) and cardiovascular disease, ”concludes Ruth Patterson, head of the cancer prevention program at the Moores Center.
