Samsung is putting the finishing touches to a whopper of a 200 MP camera. The first smartphone to receive it is quite unexpected.
A camera with more megapixels is not automatically an excellent camera, but a bigger and better lens, often with more megapixels, does help improve the quality. Smartphone cameras are already starting to get big MP numbers and it’s only going to get bigger.
Samsung camera with 200 MP
Samsung announced their new ISOCELL HP1 Image Sensor last year. This will be the brand’s next generation of smartphone cameras. Samsung already announced that it would be a pretty gigantic 200 MP camera. You would expect the Samsung S22 (Ultra) to have found its main camera with this, but it remained at ‘only’ 108 MP for the latest flagship from the Koreans. The camera is of course marketed and can therefore be bought for use by other brands. Xiaomi seems to have already shown interest and we also expect a Samsung with their own camera sooner than later. 200 MP is a pretty impressive number.
Samsung 200 MP camera for… Motorola!
Now, however, an image has leaked on Weibo (the Chinese Facebook) of a smartphone that has the camera on the back. It is indeed a lousy thing and because of the inscription ‘200 MP HP1’ it seems obvious that it concerns the 200 MP ISOCELL HP1 from Samsung. We also see a logo on the back: that of Motorola!
One and one equals two, you might say: it looks like Motorola is going to debut the Samsung camera. That would happen on the Motorola ‘Frontier’, a new flagship of the brand. It’s been a while since we could expect a fat device from Motorola, but the Frontier already seems to be potent. The device will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Chip and will have a 6.7-inch P-OLED screen, along with RAM that can be up to 12 GB. And therefore a killer camera. It is striking that it is not Samsung that is allowed to debut their new 200 MP camera.
There are rumors that we will see the Motorola Frontier in July of this year. Then we see whether a flagship Motorola can get back in the game.
