Before her departure for another ministry, Roselyne Bachelot, still Minister of Health, had proposed to integrate the experimentation of birthing centers into the bill for the financing of social security (PLFSS) for 2011. This experiment should allow women to give birth in a less medicalized environment.
But at the end of rather lively debates, the senators finally refused this proposal, pointing out the mediocre results of France in terms of maternal and fetal mortality: “This experiment is neither opportune nor urgent. Infant mortality has been divided by 3, we do not intend to go back “insisted Senator Raymonde Le Texier.
In an attempt to defend her project, Roselyne Bachelot stressed that 1% of women want to give birth at home and that many want a less medicalized childbirth. But the senators refused this experimentation with birth centers.
Let us recall that during the first passage of this text in front of the deputies, the latter voted in favor of this experiment on the condition of backing these birth centers to the maternity hospitals.
