Organized throughout France, the General Assembly of Bioethics aims to prepare the third revision of the bioethics law in 2011, which is regularly reviewed in order to take into account scientific progress as well as changes in societal issues. On this occasion, the States General brought together health professionals, philosophers, ethics experts as well as the general public.
The topics covered during these debates focused on organ transplants, prenatal diagnosis, assisted reproduction, research on the embryo, etc.
A national conference will be organized on June 23 at the Maison de la Chimie to conclude the discussions.
What is bioethics?
Bioethics concerns medical and research activities that use elements of the human body. Its main goal is to question the problems raised by scientific and technical progress with regard to society and its values. It must also protect respect for human dignity.
The debates of bioethics pose fundamental questions such as:
– What should be prohibited or authorized and why?
– On what principles must the company agree?
– To what extent is a law necessary to ensure respect for human dignity?
