While the baccalaureate exams have begun, the pace of revisions is accelerating, stress is increasing and physical and psychological fatigue is becoming more and more important. In order to boost their intellectual abilities, the B2V Observatory of Memories gives high school students 10 tips to stimulate memory during revision and exam periods.
Tip #1: Take a nap
The benefits of a 20-minute nap after lunch are not just a myth! The digestion requires energy and it tires the body and the mind. So listen to your body and avoid revisions right after meals.
Tip n°2: split review times
Depending on the attentional capacities, it is preferable to organize several episodes of revision of about twenty minutes spread over several days rather than spending one or two whole days to revise.
Tip #3: Repeat, repeat again
The more the same lesson is repeated or re-read, the better the information will be memorized.
Tip #4: Be Active
It is advisable to train with exercises in order to be an actor of his learning.
Tip #5: Take stock regularly
Know what you already know and what you don’t know yet, or take stock regularly on his knowledge, makes it possible to adjust the revisions which have not yet assimilated.
Tip no. 6: use the mental representation
Create a mental representation of what you learn, by mixing in, why not, emotion, reinforces through images the trace of what we have learned in our memory.
Tip #7: Combine new information and personal knowledge
We can use this method to remember important dates. For example :
Louis XVI was born on August 23, 1754; my father was born on august 23rd.
Tip n°8: use representations already in memory
We can create links with mental images by taking up a known space, such as the plan of his house, and associate with each element of this space information to be to memorize. “To restore the information, it will be necessary to travel through space”, explain the scientists.
Tip #9: Organize the information
The creation of plans, tables, friezes or diagrams allows the classification of key information. “Organizing allows us to focus our attention on the relevant information which must be withheld”, say the experts.
Tip #10: Sleep well at night
Preserving sleep is very important, but even more so during revisions! The night, our brain relives learning episodes to effectively consolidate them.
