For people who suffer from pollinosis, the learned name for pollen allergy, sneezing season still seems far away. However, if you want to reduce the symptoms, it is at the beginning of the year, just before the first symptoms, that you should think about preparing yourself. In particular by consulting a homeopathic doctor. “We must act before reacting! The patient’s history, his antecedents, his medical past will give the doctor the first elements of orientation which will make it possible to determine the homeopathic medicines which will attenuate the reactions when the pollen season will have come ”explains Dr Jean Mouillet, ENT, allergist and professor at the Center for teaching and development of homeopathy (CEDH).
Allergic rhinitis: very variable symptoms
Seasonal allergic rhinitis affects more and more people: according to the World Health Organization, 1 in 4 people react to pollen and suffer from one of the following symptoms:
– Sneezing bursts
– Profuse watery nasal discharge
– Nasal obstruction.
“Almost constant symptoms to which can be added other symptoms such as conjunctivitis, nasal pruritus, decreased sense of smell and even asthma” underlines Dr. Mouillet. “These symptoms can be constant or come in bursts, quite violent.”
Allergic rhinitis: the homeo approach
The predominance of this or that symptom and the modalities of aggravation or improvement as well as certain associated signs (fatigue, irritability, sugar cravings, etc.) allow the homeopathic doctor to choose the drugs which, taken today, will make it possible to “Change the terrain” to alleviate symptoms in April or May.
Three drugs are particularly popular:
– Allium Cepa : when there is allergic rhinitis with numerous sneezing followed by a clear, profuse discharge which irritates the edges of the nostrils and the upper lip. It is sometimes associated with a spasmodic cough.
– Euphrasia : when there is conjunctivitis with clear, abundant and corrosive tearing. It is sometimes associated with edema of the eyelids and a non-irritating nasal discharge.
– Sabadilla : when there is rhinitis with spasmodic sneezing and profuse but not very irritating discharge. Sometimes associated with a feeling of obstruction of the nostrils and itching of the soft palate.
“The therapeutic response is often significant and in the longer term makes it possible to reduce the intensity and frequency of allergic episodes” concludes Dr Mouillet.
