Adjacent to the historic Alfa Romeo museum, in Arese, north of Milan, the reserves contain two floors of nuggets and other models that the clover brand jealously hides. We were able to enter it and make our market. Discoveries in video.
During the celebrations for the 111th anniversary of Alfa Romeo, the Milanese brand opened the doors of its museum’s reserves to us. In this place usually closed to the public are jealously stored under tarpaulin many wonders. Follow us for a Prévert-style inventory, which surprisingly begins with an Alfa Romeo-stamped cooker, of course. This Ali Baba cave for the Alfistas has no less than two well-filled floors. From the stove to the Jeep!
Beyond the automotive world and commercial vehicles such as the AR6 and AR8, Alfa Romeo has manufactured, as we told you in the preamble, stoves, but also water pumps for firefighters, aircraft engines and tractors under the Romeo brand.
Let’s start our “automobile” tour with a unique prototype taxi destined for New York City. Then, even if it means staying in the world of cubic vehicles, the sequence is all found with the ancestor of the compact minivan, the Alfa Romeo Z33 Free Time prototype designed by Zagato. It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1984.

Kamal, the missed event!
Even more typical than an SUV, here is a backpacker, a real one: the Alfa Romeo AR51 for the military and AR 52 for civilian life. Also nicknamed Alfa Romeo Matta, this Italian-style Jeep (long before the FCA merger) is here bodied in a fully paneled version. The latter uses elements of the utility vehicle Alfa Romeo Autotutto, the Transalpine Estafette. A clearly visible relationship at the level of the pavilion and the rear quarter panel.
Long live sport!
To honor the brand’s motto, “ he cuore sportivo “, many cars have been collected in the museum’s reserves. Formula 1, Formula Indy, Formula 3 and a model for Endurance racing, the Alfa Romeo SE 048 SP. This project was originally designed with an Alfa Romeo V10 engine, which was replaced by a Ferrari V12 on the model you have in front of you. Unfortunately, the car has never raced in competition. In a completely different register of the brand with the clover, we discover the Alfa Romeo 164 Procar, a wise family saloon shamelessly by a V10 Formula 1 engine installed in a central position.
Other Ranting around the Alfa Romeo 164, here is a pick-up designed for the intervention of firefighters on the test track of the brand located in Balloco. During our visit, we unearthed two nuggets: the Alfa Romeo 156 GTAm and 166 GTAm, two prototypes that have never reached the milestone of the series and yet could have bolstered the brand’s sporty image with their 300 hp 3.5 V6 engines.
