On the occasion of World AIDS Day, December 1, the Ministry of Solidarity and Health and the health agency Santé Publique France are launching a campaign to prevention in order to inform of the different means that exist to be tested. According to the last Weekly epidemiological bulletin, 6,000 people discover their HIV status each year, more than a quarter of them at an advanced stage of infection. But there are still 25,000 people who are unaware that they are carriers of AIDS.
4 tests to choose from
The campaign aims to encourage HIV testing, particularly in populations at risk, but also to decrease the news contamination. Among these undetected carriers, 40% are men who have sex with men (MSM), 40% are heterosexual migrants, most often from sub-Saharan Africa, and 20% are heterosexual French people, recalls the Bulletin.
With the help of 4 visuals, which will be accessible on the Internet and in public places during the month of December, the different screening methods are explained. The first is the “home” poster, featuring self-test on sale in pharmacies to get a result quickly. The second is that done in a medical analysis laboratory which is reimbursed on doctor’s prescription. The third is the TROP (rapid diagnostic orientation test) which is free, anonymous, and offered by associations. And finally, the last one takes place in a CeGIDD for “free center of information, screening and diagnosis” which is also free, anonymous and without appointment. The slogan of this campaign is therefore quite naturally: “HIV testing methods adapt to your life”
