More than eight out of ten raped women say nothing. Only 13% file a complaint. A silence that hurts a lot. In an attempt to free speech, the Feminist Collective Against Rape has produced a clip. Hard-hitting if we are to believe the description given by the Parisian who presents it exclusively. Guests at a party… Among them, a man who kisses everyone. A voiceover introduces him to us. For one, he is the friend you can count on, for the other the wedding witness … but for the one whose “face is upset, specifies the Parisian, he is the man who m raped her. And who can hear her?
No burglary, no violence as we understand it because in 80% of cases, the perpetrator of a rape is a relative, a friend, a friend. “We must therefore raise public awareness, testifies Dr. Gilles Lazimi, member of the Feminist Collective against Rape, in the columns of Le Parisien. It is about the lives of victims sometimes, because rape, especially that we cannot telling is a trauma whose physical and psychological impact can be totally devastating”, insists the tireless activist.
The clip, which will be broadcast from today on the Internet and then on several TV channels, will undoubtedly affect the 87,000 French women who are victims of this barbaric act each year. But, the mission will be successful if each of us puts himself in the shoes of the one who said one day to a woman who was confiding: “No, you must be wrong, he is so nice!” An apparently innocuous phrase which nevertheless makes rape even more devastating because the aggressors are not unmasked but above all because the victims are denied.
But this clip alone will obviously not be able to lift the taboo. Laws will also need to be changed so that women who are willing to speak out are not blocked by the statute of limitations. The UDI had tabled a bill aimed at extending this period to 30 years instead of 20 for minors. Voted in the Senate, it was finally rejected last December in the National Assembly by 252 votes against 191. The Socialists believe that it is our entire system of limitation periods that must be modified. In the meantime, speech is not released.
