A study published in 2016 made it possible to scientifically validate an anxiolytic weaning protocol called SPECth. Its particularity is that it consists of a Spa treatment of 3 weeks, associated with balneotherapy treatments as well as a program of cognitive and behavioral therapy. At the end of these 3 weeks, the patient benefits from a 6-month follow-up. This course entitled “reduce or stop your tranquillizers” will be 50% covered by the Caisse Nationale d’Assurance naladie (CNAM) during 2018. In the end, it will cost 160 euros instead of 320 €.
Towards a total cessation of drugs
This therapeutic protocol was born in the spa town of Saujon, which specializes in psychological disorders. The study which validated its effectiveness involved 70 patients, aged 55 on average. All suffered from anxiety and/or depression and presented an overconsumption of benzodiazepine, an anxiolytic. At the end of 3 months, then 6 months after the end of the care, the doctors noted the medicinal consumption of these patients using a questionnaire.
As a result, 40% completely stopped taking medication and 78% of patients reduced their consumption by half. Dr Olivier Dubois, psychiatrist at the thermal baths of Saujon, explains in a press release that the anxious state and depression improved considerably in weaned patients. According to him, “this medical recognition once again confirms that this set of treatments is an effective solution for reducing drug overconsumption. »
