“A specific form for reporting adverse effects following the making of a tattoo” has been drawn up, the agency said, and it can be downloaded from the Afssaps website.
The objective is to collect the information necessary for their “recording, evaluation and exploitation”, and this “for the purpose of prevention”. Serious adverse effects must necessarily be reported by “health professionals as well as people who perform tattoos”.
Since last February, the practice of piercings and tattoos has been subject to new regulations. A decree, which modifies the Public Health Code, notably requires salons to be declared, and staff to undergo training. Manufacturing techniques, product conservation, and hygiene rules to be respected are also specified.
Tattoos and piercings can no longer be performed on a minor “without the written consent of a person holding parental authority or his guardian”. In the event of non-compliance with these rules, the decree provides for 5th class fines, that is to say with a court appearance, and fines of up to 1,500 euros.
