Citröen has developed glasses to prevent motion sickness. According to the brand, its innovation “makes it possible to resynchronize the sight and the inner ear in less than 10 minutes and in 95% of cases”.
Do you regularly suffer from motion sickness? This could change your daily life … In partnership with the start-up Boarding glasses, Citröen has developed Seetröen glasses specially designed to overcome this disorder. The product has been on sale since July 5 on The online store of the mark for the sum of 99 euros.
These glasses – the “first” of this kind, welcomes Citroën on its site – correct the difference in perception between sight and hearing. Because motion sickness, scientifically called “motion sickness” or “neupathy”, comes from a problem of coordination between these two sensory sources. The ear, which is very sensitive to changes in direction, informs the brain that you are moving while your eyes tell it the opposite.
In detail, Seetröen is not equipped with glasses but with four rings in which a blue liquid moves from left to right and back and forth. This displacement simulates an artificial horizon which “makes it possible to resynchronize the sight and the inner ear in less than 10 minutes and in 95% of cases”, says Citroën in the video produced to promote its innovation.
Ginger, a good alternative
In this film, we learn that one in three people suffers from motion sickness (three million French, mainly young children and women). The brand shows cartoon characters suffering from it during their train journey. “But all that is over now”, promises Citröen by presenting its new product and by featuring passengers who can now “read or watch a movie without the slightest problem”.
If, however, you don’t have 99 euros to spend on an unattractive pair of glasses (and which does not correct your eyesight), there are a few tips to avoid suffering too much during a trip. By plane, bus or boat, if possible choose the middle seat, which is generally less subject to movement. A travel pillow can also help prop up your head while traveling. In a boat or in a car, fix your gaze on a stable element such as the horizon or the white line in the middle of the road and take in the air regularly by opening the windows to avoid hot spots.
Before the trip, avoid heavy meals, coffee and alcohol as well as indigestible drinks such as orange juice or milk. Instead, prepare a drink made with lemon, ginger, known for its anti-nausea properties, and honey to drink regularly during the trip. A solution that is both delicious and economical.
