Batches of minced meat have been recalled in New Aquitaine, following the detection of the bacterium Escherichia Coli, better known as E Coli. Consuming any of these products can be very dangerous for your health, especially in hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
The Escherichia Coli bacterium, better known as E Coli, has been detected in batches of minced meat distributed by Leader Price and Casino. The products in question have been withdrawn from sale or recalled, but beware: customers may still have purchased them.
The Sovivoa company declared in a press release to have proceeded “as a precautionary measure with the withdrawal and recall of pure minced beef and chilled chopped steaks, in agreement with the health authorities, and following the detection of Escherichia Coli type 026 bacteria.” The company specifies the bacteria was detected in a single batch, but that “as a precautionary measure”, it “extended the withdrawal from the shelves and the recall to ten references”.
The products were to be consumed on June 30 and July 5, 6, 7, 9 or 10
The contaminated batches of minced meat were distributed to five regions, namely: Auvergne Rhône Alpes, Center Val de Loire, Occitanie, Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The products were to be consumed on June 30 and July 5, 6, 7, 9 or 10. They were distributed in Casino Supermarkets and Leader Price. For additional information, a telephone number is available to consumers by dialing: 0800.35.00.00.
E Coli bacteria are naturally present in our digestive tract and in that of certain animals such as cattle. Usually, this element multiplies every twenty minutes, without posing a danger. But when it’s a “bad” strain, a toxin is released and attacks the red blood cells and kidneys. Like the six children who recently ate contaminated reblochon, we can, in the most serious cases, develop a hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), fatal in 3 to 5% of cases. Its main manifestation is bloody diarrhea and abdominal pain. This pathology mainly affects children and the elderly.
Do not hesitate to go to the emergency room
It can also lead, in the days following consumption, to gastroenteritis (which can be hemorrhagic), vomiting, fever and severe kidney complications in children. If these symptoms appear, it is advisable to consult your doctor, and, if he is not available quickly, not to hesitate to go to the emergency room, specifying that the E. coli bacteria are suspected.
