“Internet addiction is not yet recognized as an official disorder by the DSM, the reference book for psychiatry, but it is real and damaging to those who are addicted to the Internet. Explains the founder of the program, Dr. Kimberly Young.
This program is intended for people aged 18 and over who have failed to overcome their internet addiction individually. “Simply addiction to modern technology doesn’t necessarily mean you’re sick. This drug rehab program is not designed for smartphone addicted teens, but for people whose lives are unmanageable thanks to their Internet obsession. Says Dr. Kimberly Young. Internet addiction is expressed by compulsive behavior towards the Internet and interferes with normal life. It causes significant stress on family, friends, relatives, the environment and everyone’s work.
Before joining this program, patients fill out a specialty questionnaire developed by Dr. Kimberly Young to analyze their level of addiction.
The program includes a ten-day voluntary stay in a secure and dedicated care unit. During this detox, a patient will be cut off from all computer use. A process explains Dr. Kimberly Young ” which can be distressing for these addicts, causing depression, irritability and sometimes even making it violent “.
Indeed, the Internet becomes the main organizer of the lives of those people who are ready to sacrifice what they cherish most in order to preserve and continue to be connected. A stabilization program will then be put in place under the care of a multidisciplinary medical team (psychiatrists, licensed psychologists, addiction counselors, psychiatric nurses, social workers, therapists, and support staff). The team is committed to helping patients develop a healthy lifestyle free from internet and computer addiction.
