Tea is a very complex drink made up of several hundred molecules, including polyphenols (antioxidants) with recognized anticancer properties. The protective substances in tea would have a specific impact on blocking the development of the microvessels which irrigate the tumors: non-irrigated, the tumor then grows much more difficult. But among the five existing types of tea – white, green, oolong, pu-erh or black – green is the only one to have this preventive efficacy fully.
The anti-aging weapon
Due to the polyphenols, which it contains in number with a content four times higher than that of vitamin C, green tea – and especially varieties from Japan – fights against the aging of our cells. And on this point, it is he who has benefited from the greatest number of scientific studies proving its effects. Anti aging. To take full advantage of it, you need to drink two to three cups a day.
The friend of diets … and teeth!
Its main strengths? Promote fat burning and facilitate drainage of the body. A study published in 2011 in the journal “Obesity” indeed showed that a mouse fed with fatty foods, but which received in parallel components of green tea, grew bigger less quickly than those which did not receive it. Which tends to prove that green tea slows down the formation of fatty masses in the body. Ideal for maintaining your healthy weight, it is also useful for preserving the healthy teeth, its polyphenols limiting the growth of bacteria associated with cariessuch as E. Coli, S. Salivarius and S. Mutans.
Thirst-quenching and less exciting than coffee
As good hot as it is iced, green tea is very thirst-quenching and it is even favored by many athletes as a rehydrating drink after exercise. In addition, it contains two to three times less theine (or caffeine, it’s the same molecule) than coffee. Do you have a fragile sleep? Note that the theine diffuses in the very first seconds of the infusion. Deshine your tea by letting it steep for 20 seconds, discard the “first water” then pour boiling water again on the leaves and let it infuse normally.
Its health benefits
• Very antioxidant, it fights against cellular aging and against Cancer, with a more pronounced preventive effect on oral cancers, from colonand prostate. To maximize the protection offered by tea, it is better to opt for Japanese green teas, which are richer in anticancer molecules.
• Slimming. It is a diet drink provided it is consumed plain. Studies have linked its consumption to decrease in body weight and the percentage of body fat.
The art of “tea time”
• Bulk or sachet? Purists will answer without hesitation that the infusion is triggered more quickly with beautiful loose tea leaves which then reveal all the subtlety of their fragrance. However, it is a false debate: the infusettes used today by the big brands of tea have no impact on the quality of the drink, and the mixture which is there (whole leaves, broken …) is the same as for bulk sale.
• Organic ? Choosing organic is the guarantee of a drink without fertilizer or pesticide residues. Remember, tea leaves are never washed after harvest!
• In a cast iron teapot? Cast iron, porcelain, glass, whatever. These materials offer teapots “without memory”, that is to say teapots that do not soak up the aromas of the teas that have infused them. So you just need to rinse them with hot water after each use, then let them air dry to be able to use them again. This is not the case with terracotta teapots, called “memory”, which absorb aromas. You must then use a teapot for each tea.
• What temperature ? You can’t go wrong by reading the instructions for the infusion table on the can of tea. It indicates the tea dosage, the water temperature and the optimal brewing time. By preferring, in addition, spring water or filtered tap water, you will enjoy an excellent tea-health, tasty and aromatic.
• Lemon or milk? Sacrilege! We thus deprive ourselves of many of its health benefits, the addition of lemon, honey, milk … reducing its antioxidant properties. Do you dislike plain tea? You will no doubt be seduced by a good green tea flavored with fruits or flowers (cherry, orange …).
