Between 2014 and 2016, the World Health Organization used an experimental vaccine against Ebola in West Africa. It has just been approved by the US Health Administration according to a press release published on December 19.
A breakthrough in the fight against Ebola
This is a vaccine developed by the Merck & Co laboratory called Ervebo. According to the press release, it is 100% effective provided it is administered at least 10 days before potential exposure to the virus. The vaccine had already been approved by the European Commission in November. It is intended for people at least 18 years old and is performed as a single injection. It will limit the transmission of the deadly virus.
The Ebola virus caused its first epidemics in 1976. Since that date, it has been responsible for more than 15,000 deaths. The deadliest period took place between 2013 and 2016, during which 11,300 patients died in West Africa. Ren that since August 1, 2018, the virus has resulted in the deaths of 2,100 people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
